History, Racing, and Fun in Store This Weekend at Knoxville!

(Bill W) A huge weekend of racing, as well as a look at the past is in store this weekend at Knoxville. It all starts Thursday night with practice for this weekend’s 8th Annual Iowa Telecom/Pepsi Midget Nationals and Friday’s Masters Classic. Over twenty drivers are signed in already for the race for drivers age 50 and over, including former champions Mike Peters and Randy Smith, as well as Sammy Swindell. The Masters will again pay $3,000 to the winner. The King Doodlebug Classic for the midgets will run Friday night, with Saturday’s events including the Pepsi USAC Knoxville Midget Nationals, and the 410 sprints Knoxville Championship Cup showdown. Throw in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum’s 20th Annual Induction Banquet Saturday afternoon, and its going to be a full weekend, indeed!

Peters, Smith and Swindell’s entries in Friday’s Masters Classic are joined by Carl “Midge” Miller, Bobby Becker Jr., Butch Hanssen, Dale McCarty, Joe McCarthy, Regan Kitchen, Randy Droescher, David Gailley, Bill Smith, Greg Rilat, David Brown, Don Stoutner, Allan Unruh, Earnest Jennings, Lonnie Jensen, Roland Johnson, Mike Houseman, Judi Bates, Rick Sorem and George Prosser.
