Legends Descending on Knoxville This Weekend!
(Bill W) It's a great time to be at the Knoxville Raceway this Friday and Saturday night! In addition to the crazy three and four-wide midget action at the 8th Annual Pepsi/Iowa Telecom USAC Knoxville Midget Nationals that we've grown accustomed to, several Hall of Famers and future inductees will be in town to race sprint cars as well!
Towing from Salfordville, Pennsylvania to compete in the 410's on Saturday night will be "Fast" Fred Rahmer! After competing at Williams Grove in his home state on Friday night, he will fly out to be inducted in the Nationals Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum. He will then join his team to race on Saturday night! Fred recently picked up his 500th career win in racing, and he has over 400 wins in a sprint car in less than twenty years. He has two career victories at Knoxville, both coming in Nationals prelims.
Friday night's Masters Classic is turning into a who's who of sprint car talent! Recent entries include Hall of Famer Sammy Swindell, who will pilot Clint Garner's #40. The 1983 Nationals champion really needs no introduction, and will also be lending support to his son Kevin, who will be competing in Keith Kunz's #67 midget.
Future Hall of Fame candidate Gary Wright from Hooks, Texas served notice in practice on Friday that he will need to be reckoned with in Friday night's Masters Classic. When asked if he would be running with the 410's on Saturday night, he said, "We'll see." The last time he said that was last August when he finished on the podium in a prelim at the Knoxville Nationals and then made Saturday's finale! The 1998 360 Nationals champion and 2006 BRODIX Tournament of Champions winner will pilot Scott Brown's #9x.
Another Hall of Famer, the "Mouse" Kenny Jacobs will be in town, driving Travis Rilat's #29 Friday night! The veteran will accept Hall of Fame honors for friend Jac Haudenschild, and seek the $3,000 to win Masters Classic as well.
