'Yank' Terry McCarl and 'Aussie' Brooke Tatnell Enter $10,000-to-win Knoxville World Challenge!
KNOXVILLE, IOWA (June 19, 2009) - American Terry McCarl
of Iowa and Australian Brooke Tatnell of New South Wales have become the
first two entrants for the $10,000-to-win Knoxville World Challenge at
Knoxville Raceway on Friday, August 14, during the 49th annual SuperClean
Knoxville Nationals presented by Lucas Oil. McCarl, son of veteran sprint
car driver/owner/mechanic/builder Lenard McCarl, is a 6-time Knoxville
Raceway track point titlist. Tatnell, son of Australian Speedway Hall of
Fame inductee George Tatnell, won the Knoxville World Challenge in 2006.
According to Knoxville's director of racing Ralph Capitani,
"The World Challenge international invitational is a big part of our
Knoxville Nationals and the Iowa SpeedWeeks, but it is also important in
preserving our heritage as 'the Sprint Car Capital of the World'. Knoxville
has a great history of providing a level playing field to foster great
competition amongst sprint car racing's best competitors from Australia,
Canada, New Zealand and the United States. We also have great marketing
partners in the promotional teams at Premier Speedway's Sungold Stadium in
Warrnambool, Victoria, Australia; the Western Springs Speedway in Auckland,
North Island, New Zealand; the Baypark Speedway in Mount Maunganui, North
Island, New Zealand; the Castrol Raceway in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada; and
the Ohsweken Speedway in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada."
McCarl will be wheeling the BGHA-owned Ott-powered, Maxim-chassis sprint car
number 24, which is sponsored by Big Game Tree Stands, DeBerg Concrete and
P&V Investments. Tatnell will be piloting the Titan Racing-owned,
Ott-powered, Maxim-chassis sprint car number 21AU, which is sponsored by
Titan Garages & Car Ports, HRP and Sanders Engineering. Since both Terry
McCarl and race winner Brooke Tatnell competed in the 2009 Grand Annual
Sprintcar Classic at Warrnambool, both are inversion-eligible for the '09
Knoxville World Challenge on Friday, August 14.
