News Release Regarding 2009 Knoxville Nationals
Wednesday, July 1, 2009
After several months of monitoring fuel usage in the 410 class, Knoxville officials have decided that the competitors would not be able to complete 40 laps in the Knoxville Nationals A main without a 33 gallon tank. Even then it would be to close for any extra laps under the yellow. The Nationals A Feature will remain 40 laps with a pit stop built in to the show.

According to Tech Officials the amount of fuel being used by the engines has gone up significantly in the past couple of years. Officials doubt, given the right track conditions, a 28 gallon tank would complete even 30 laps with some engines.

It is the opinion of the Raceway that this is not the year under current economic conditions, to make the teams purchase 33 gallon tanks. With that being said, it is also the intention of the Raceway to run additional laps in non stop events such as qualifying nights and other Saturday Night Features which would only make sense for the teams to try and obtain 33 gallon tanks.
