5 More Int'l. Stars Enter Clean-O World Challenge

Tuesday, June 14, 2005
As Canadian Marc Duperron won the final Clean-O World Challenge qualifier at the Bud Motorsports Park in Edmonton last Wednesday night during the Alberta Sprint Tour (AST) Speedweek, five more entries were received for the Friday, August 12th, international sprint car invitational at the world-famous Knoxville Raceway. Those entering the $10,000-to-win Clean-O World Challenge this week are international driving stars Billy Alley of the United States, current New Zealand sprint car champion Ben Finemore, Australian Kerry Madsen, Jamie McDonald of New Zealand, and Australian Lynton Jeffrey.

The entries by Ben Finemore and Jamie McDonald, combined with the previously received entries of Stevie Walsh and Bill Clarkson, Jr., make for a record number of New Zealanders competing at this year’s 45th annual Knoxville Nationals sprint car championships. Sixteen-year-old Finemore is currently looking for a ride for the Nationals, while 22-year-old McDonald will compete in the Benic Enterprises/Vortex Wings-sponsored number NZ3 machine. Walsh and Clarkson will race for Bob Trostle and Dean Osborn, respectively.

Billy Alley of Lincoln, Nebraska, also qualified for the Clean-O World Challenge, presented by www.fleetbuyinggroup.com, at Willie Kay’s Todd & Pollack Speedway at the Bay Park Stadium in Mount Maunganui, North Island, New Zealand. Alley will compete in the special challenge race in his own Speedway Motors/Nebraska Laser Eye-sponsored Wesmar-powered Eagle number 22 sprinter. Billy’s best finish in the Clean-O World Challenge was 14th place last year when it was known as the Kele World Challenge.

Kerry Madsen will be competing in the Vermeer Motorsports-owned Cool sprint car number 55. The Wesmar-powered sprinter sports sponsorship from TK Concrete, Tulip City Agency, Tony’s Auto Parts, and Slideways Karting Center. Lynton Jeffrey will be racing the Barry Lewis-owned J&J sprinter number 4AU, which is sponsored by Vortex Racing Products, McCroskey Chevrolet, and Pella Ice Cream Company. Alley, Madsen and Jeffrey are all Knoxville Raceway regulars, which means that they should be extra tough in the top-16-inverted finale of the Friday night Knoxville Nationals program. Madsen (2000) and Jeffrey (2002) have each finished a career-best sixth place in the World Challenge event in the past.
