It's a Dirt Job!
.......and Knoxville has to do it.
While the November weather is conducive for such a project, Knoxville Raceway has been replacing the dirt on its big half-mile oval. Between 150-200 dump truck loads of good Iowa black dirt has been deposited in turns 1-2 and 3-4 to bring those grades up to par. Other areas have received dirt too but by far most of it has gone in the turns.
The last time the track was refurbished with new dirt was prior to the 2004 race season.
