1977 Results, Stories and Points Posted!

(Bill W) 1977 was quite the year for Doug Wolfgang, car owner Bob Trostle and Gary Mussatto. "The Wolf" tore up nine straight wins to open the 1977 Knoxville season and took his first Knoxville Nationals title. The crowds began to fill the raceway as the streak went on, with fans hoping someone could beat the potent team. Competitors cried foul, but the secret lied in the hours Wolfgang and Trostle put in in the offseason to lighten the car and prepare for the season ahead. Lloyd Beckman finally got the win on the tenth try. Beckman was one of the defenders of Wolfgang and Trostle during the streak. He had been known to rack up similar numbers of consecutive wins himself when pairing with "Speedy" Bill Smith in Nebraska, and knew that hard work was the key.
