Moran & Bone Enter Lucas Oil L.M. Nationals

Monday, June 27, 2005
Two of the toughest dirt late model drivers in the country have entered the second annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals at the Knoxville Raceway, September 29-30-October 1. Donnie Moran of Dresden, Ohio, who won the 2001 “Eldora Million”, and Johnny Bone, Jr., of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, who is currently in second place in O’Reilly National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) points, have filed official entries for the $35,000-to-win event.

According to Knoxville director of racing Ralph ‘Cappy’ Capitani, “It means a lot to us at Knoxville Raceway to continue to receive entries from the top dirt late model drivers in the nation for our season-ending Lucas Oil Nationals on the Speed Channel. Donnie Moran is a class act and very much a family-oriented person whose presence enhances our three-day event. And I don’t know much about Johnny Bone, Jr., other than he is posting some pretty impressive results in dirt late model and modified stock car competition in the region surrounding Tornado Alley. I’m looking forward to meeting Johnny, and welcoming Donnie and his family back to Knoxville, in late September.”

Moran will pilot his own SMS-powered Masterbilt late model number 99, which is sponsored by PBM Performance Parts, Eddie's Sunoco Race Fuels, Muskingum County Speedway, Balderson Dodge and Forest Park NAPA. Donnie is currently fourth in Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points, and is coming off a big $10,000 win at the Masters at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin.

Bone will steer the Shop Quik Racing dirt late model number 2, which is sponsored by Shop Quik Convenience Stores, Junghans' Discount Liquor, and Simon Sunoco Race Fuel. Johnny races in World Dirt Racing League (WDRL), Topless Outlaw Racing Association (TORA) and Midwest Late model Racing Association (MLRA) competition, but it is in NCRA-sanctioned events that he is doing so well in 2005.

Besides Moran and Bone, other pre-entries for the Lucas Oil Knoxville Dirt Late Model Nationals, which features a $219,900 total purse, are such national standouts as Steve Shaver of West Virginia, Earl Pearson, Jr., of Florida, Kyle Berck and John Anderson of Nebraska, Brady Smith and Jimmy Mars of Wisconsin, John Duty of Oregon, Justin Fegers of Minnesota, Chris Smyser of Missouri, Darren Miller of Illinois, Jeep Van Wormer of Michigan, Scott James of Indiana, and defending champion Brian Birkhofer of Iowa.
