Changes in Rules Announced!

Knoxville Raceway Officials announced several upcoming changes to the rule book for the 2011 season. Most notably was the addition of 25 lbs to the minimum weight rule in the 410 class. In addition to being part of the World of Outlaw’s 2011 rules, it was felt this was a good move to further encourage safer materials and parts in the cars. It was felt that the increase would not be an inconvenience to most of the cars running the Knoxville Championship Cup Series.
The second item on the agenda was the addition of the standards for the LS sprint engine and allowing it to run at all 2011 events at Knoxville Raceway including the Knoxville Nationals. The rules will be pretty much standard with the existing LS packages that utilize the 427 LS engine. They will be posted on the web site as soon as a few rules are finalized concerning fuel delivery and the different choices that are available.
Also additional intake stack restrictions are being added to the Knoxville “Open” engine. Any engines 430 cu. in. or bigger will be further restricted to a 2 1/2” stack. Engines under 430 cu. in. can still use the 2 5/8” stack. All other rules apply to the “Open“ engine platform as written. At this time the Knoxville “Open” engine will not be allowed to compete at the 2011 World of Outlaw events or the 2011 Knoxville Nationals.
“Hopefully we can further study this engine weekly and it will be able to be accepted for all Knoxville Raceway shows in 2012.” Stated Knoxville Competition Director, John McCoy. “ These governed engines either by air intake or internal parts are still considered to be important to the continued health of the sport by Knoxville Officials.”
Another addition was the inclusion of the Schoenfeld Muffler #14272735 to be allowed in 2011 and mandatory in 2012.
There were no changes in the 360 rules.
In the 305 class, Knoxville Officials have expressed an interest in using a stock intake gasket to further regulate the intake port.
