KNOXVILLE, IOWA (December 23, 2010) - The Western Springs Speedway in Auckland, New Zealand, will host the first 2011 Premier Chevy Dealers Knoxville World Challenge international qualifier this Sunday, December 26, on “Boxing Day”. Amongst the early entrants are Americans Sammy Swindell of Tennessee, Ricky Logan of Arkansas, Jonathan Allard of California, and Tommy Tarlton of California, Australian Peter Murphy of Queensland, and a whole host of talented New Zealanders. The thirty-lap feature will pay $4,000 to win, with all competitors qualifying for the $10,000-to-win Premier Chevy Dealers Knoxville World Challenge on Friday, August 12, during the 51st annual Goodyear Knoxville Nationals, presented by Lucas Oil, at Knoxville Raceway.

Amongst the New Zealanders that have confirmed their attendance for the Porter Hire/Hydraulink International Sprintcar Series show are New Zealand’s current #1 titlist Rodney Wood, former New Zealand Super Saloon champion Graeme “Skinny” Colson, and former N.Z. sprint car national champions Dean Brindle, Jamie McDonald and Carl Wilson. In addition, the field is expected to include hotshoes Ryan O’Connor and Ossie Sokol.

Said Knoxville director of racing, Ralph Capitani, this week, “We are very excited about the ‘buzz’ that is occurring about Sunday’s Knoxville World Challenge qualifier at Western Springs. The fact that 1983 Knoxville Nationals champion Sammy Swindell, who nearly won this year’s 50th Nationals, will be in attendance is huge news! Plus, we are thrilled that Western Springs has attracted popular Australian Peter Murphy, who used to race weekly at Knoxville, and his teammate in California, Tommy Tarlton. Jonathan Allard and the inaugural “Mr. Sprint Car” Ricky Logan are great competitors and quality additions to any field. Starting with this ‘Boxing Day’ event at Western Springs, the countdown to the 51st Goodyear Knoxville Nationals, August 10-13, 2011, has officially begun!”
