Week 2 at Knoxville Raceway with the 92c team
GOALS ACCOMPLISHED
We are pleased to announce that Michael Automotive Authority has joined the Goodno Promotion, Harmon Autoglass, Reeds Automotive Repair, Lazer Car Wash of Knoxville, Northland Oil and Motors Inn of Knoxville 92c sprint car team.
Well after making repairs from our first encounter with the turn 4 wall at Knoxville Raceway in our first official sprint car event. We would like to thank Bob Thomson of Jockos for his help in making all the necessary repairs. With Mother Nature doing her thing there was no racing at Knoxville last week so we had to wait until this Saturday 5/28/2011 to get back on the track.
On this night the team would get their first time qualifying in their hot laps. This means you needed to be on top of your game right out of the box. With all the repairs and changed that was made in hopes of improving from the first night out we just did not know what we would have. When hot laps where complete we were setting 11 out of 20. Which was not bad considering the circumstances?
With the Goodno Promotion, Harmon Autoglass, Reeds Automotive Repair, Lazer Car Wash of Knoxville, Northland Oil, Michael Automotive Authority and Motors Inn of Knoxville Codeman 92c sprint car team would start third row outside in heat race #1. The place to be was on the bottom that meant that Cody would have to get to the bottom. When the green flag dropped there was no place for the 92c to go so we fell back to 8th or 9th before he could get to the bottom. With only 6 laps in a heat you need to get all you can get as soon as you can. Cody just stayed steady and smooth and found himself in 5th with drop of the checkered flag. Goal #1 for the night achieved completing a heat race.
In getting ready for the A main event the team made some more changes in hopes of improving the set up and staying up with the changing track conditions.
The Goodno Promotion, Harmon Autoglass, Reeds Automotive Repair, Lazer Car Wash of Knoxville, Northland Oil, Michael Automotive Authority and Motors Inn of Knoxville 92c would start 10th 5th row outside. Once again the place to be was the bottom. At the drop of the green the 92c was on the top going into turn 1 and then over the cushion it went falling way back. The difference this time was being able to keep the car off the wall. A few laps latter there was an accident in turn 1 bring out a red flag. At that I noticed Cody roll thru the accident area which is something you just do not want to do. By this time Cody had picked a couple of the spots he lost at the start. Then there was another red flag on the restart which affected the front of the field. When was all done and the double checkers flew Cody in the 92c would finish 8th. Goal #2 accomplished
In the pits after the races I congratulated Cody on his night. I asked what happened at the start of the main and why he passed wreck with the red out. The answer to both question was the same no brakes. Cody said without rear brakes that when he hit the brakes the front would come hard and upset the car so he had to peddle the car around the corners.
Cody very excited to let us know that Stacey Alexander (2001 & 2006 360 Sportsman of the year) and his father have joined the 92c team. Cody told us Stacey walked him on the track and explained just what they were looking at and where he was setting the car to run. Cody also said that Stacey told him that if he drove in the slick part of the track he was going to kick is rump, and then broke out in a big smile. After lessening to him telling us about Stacey I believe that he has a great confidence and respect in what he tells him. I do believe it is going to be a lot of fun to watch this team grow.
Cody and the 92c team would like to thank: Goodno Promotion, Harmon Autoglass of Pella and Knoxville, Reeds Automotive Repair, Lazer Car Wash of Knoxville, Northland Oil, Motors Inn of Knoxville, QTC, DPLM and English Creek Speedway
