Fair Time and Racing Bring Fun for the Whole Family as the Marion County Fair Kicks In!!!

Monday, July 11, 2005
by Bill Wright - Knoxville is the place to be this weekend and into next week, as the Marion County Fair kicks in on Friday and continues through Thursday, July 21. Plenty of racing is on tap, starting with Saturday’s Hy-Vee night at the races! Check out the Hy-Vee sponsored sprint car simulator on the fairgrounds and take a spin for FREE.

Great affordable racing action is a given as well. Admissions to Saturday’s races are $10 for adults, $3 for kids, with preschoolers free of charge. Excitement awaits as 410 pilots Kerry Madsen and Wayne Johnson continue to trade the lead in the points race. Madsen garnered a victory and a fourth place finish in last week’s twin features, taking the lead back from Johnson. Johnson sits a mere 15 points back, while Ricky Logan, propelled by a win of his own last week, is third, back 140 points.

Brian Brown continues to gain ground as well, and sits in fourth place. Brown captured another 360 victory last Friday night in ASCS Midwest action at Nebraska Raceway Park. Skip Jackson is still holding down fifth, but Billy Alley and Justin Henderson have been streaking of late, and are looking to get in the top five. Don Droud Jr., Matt Moro and Tim St. Arnold complete the top ten in the points race.

Chad Meyer is currently 13th in points, but nailed down another victory Sunday at Huset’s Speedway and continues to lead that points race in South Dakota, holding a five point lead over Jake Peters. Dusty Zomer finished second in Sunday night’s 410 race, Clint Garner was fourth, Peters was fifth, Mike Moore was sixth, and Henderson was tenth, so plenty of Knoxville regulars were in attendance.

Peters used two top five finishes last weekend to solidify his point lead in the 360 class. Johnny Anderson struck victory lane in last Saturday’s opening 360 feature and followed that up with a sixth place finish. He sits 71 points back of Peters in second. Bad luck struck Larry Ball Jr. and he sits in third, while John Kearney and second feature winner, Josh Higday round out the top five. Higday has been on a roll as of late and is on the rise.

John Schulz sits sixth in the 360 standings, while Brett Mather, Joe Beaver, Dusty Zomer and David Hall round out the top ten. Don’t miss all the action Saturday night, as more visitors come in to prepare for the big shows at the end of July and beginning of August!
