by Bob Jones - July 15, 2005--Danny Lasoski and friends gathered recently to raise funds in the name of the Michael Ross Memorial Foundation. The Michael Ross Memorial Foundation was founded in honor of the son of Tony and Kathy Ross from American Compressed Steel, Inc. following Michael’s passing due to complications from tay-sachs disease. The MRMF is a non-profit charity organization supporting Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay, Michigan. “When the totals came in we were very pleased to be able to present a check to Bay Cliff for $160,000,” Lasoski said. “To date, the MRMF has donated over $700,000 to the camp. I can’t express enough how thankful I am to all of those who helped and participated in these events.”

Bay Cliff Health Camp is a six-week summer camp that assists severely handicapped children. The camp funding is raised to help remove financial burdens from the children’s families so the visits are completely covered including new wheel chairs, crutches or other medical equipment the children may need. The children participate in camp activities and are taught specific learning strategies to aid them and their handicaps. “This Camp is a very special place and is something we all believe in. Each year we try to raise the bar and beat the previous year’s totals and that goal gets harder and harder to match every year. Last year we raised $110,000 so needless to say we are very happy to raise $160,000 during this year’s event,” said Ross.

Lasoski organizes the annual MRMF Golf Tournament, which is played in Sedalia, MO during the World of Outlaws visit to the State Fair Speedway. “I invite all my buddies to play golf and we have a blast. We get guys here from all facets of the racing world and we have a ton of fun,” said Lasoski. Racing stars in attendance this year included Tony Stewart, Dave Marcis, Gary Scelzi, Ron Capps, and Doug Kalitta, not to mention nearly all of the World of Outlaws competitors. “We had a great turn out this year and I am grateful to everyone’s generosity for the cause,” said Lasoski.

Fans were treated to another star-studded field for the MRMF Celebrity Race as this year’s line-up included Stewart, Marcis, Scelzi, Capps, Kalitta, TV personalities Matt Yokum and Ralph Sheheen, Speedfreak’s Statt Mann and third-generation, future stars Kraig Kinser and Kevin Swindell. “We had another great group of guys for the Celebrity Race. I was glad to see Ron Capps win it. You could tell he was just elated to win one on a dirt track against those guys. I had planned to race but had some guys asking me to put Steve and Sammy’s kids in cars so I decided to sit this one out and let those two go at it. They all said they had a lot of fun and that was our goal,” said Lasoski.

Along with the MRMF Golf Tournament and Celebrity Race, Lasoski helps to organize a memorabilia auction following the tournament and co-promotes the WoO race at the State Fair Speedway. “Every cent of the proceeds goes to the kids. That is a pretty good feeling knowing that all the money we raised is going towards a good cause and will really make a difference in these kids lives,” said Lasoski.
