Knoxville, IA - Knoxville Raceway recognizes the sacrifices of local heroes, and wants to give back to the service men and women who do so much for the community. Heroes Night, scheduled for July 4th, is a chance to honor active and retired military, EMS, firefighters, police officers, and sheriffs with discounted tickets. These service members can purchase half priced tickets at the Box Office with an ID badge.

The July 4th race is the 12th in the Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series, and is also 360 Twin Feature Night. In addition, the race is part of the National Sprint League series.

Ryan Bunton, a 410 competitor driving #7R this season, honors heroes in his own way. Bunton’s sprint car features a special camo paint scheme, and he allows veterans and active military members to sign his car. He also allows military family members the chance to sign a family member’s name.

“Before the 2014 season, we were brainstorming during the off-season about a paint scheme for the car,” said Bunton. The Bunton’s are a family team with no corporate sponsors, and also own a body shop, allowing a lot of flexibility with painting the car.

“We decided that we wanted the paint scheme to really mean something,” Bunton stated. “A lot of vets come to the track, and we wanted to give back to them. We got a great response in 2014, so we decided to keep it up this year.”

Currently, Bunton’s car has about 200 signatures, but the number climbs each weekend as more vets and military members are invited to sign the car.

Active and retired military, EMS and firefighters can purchase a discounted Heroes Night ticket for the July 4th race at the Box Office with ID, and tickets are on-sale now. Adult tickets for the weekly Lucas Oil Knoxville Championship Cup Series races are $15.
