Miller, Cook, Clanton, Clark & Papenhausen Enter Lucas Oil L.M. Knoxville Nationals

Saturday, September 3, 2005
Out-of-state entries for the second annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals at the Knoxville Raceway, September 29-30-October 1, continue to arrive at the brick ticket office on a daily basis. Recent entrants include Matt Miller of Arlington, Ohio, Ray Cook of Brasstown, North Carolina, Shane Clanton of Locust Grove, Georgia, Chad Clark of Marshall, Missouri, and Richard Papenhausen of Chico, California.

Richard Papenhausen, who is just six points out of the lead for the 2005 Dart Heads Western Dirt Late Model Tour, will make his first career start at Knoxville aboard the David Papenhausen-owned dirt late model number 4P. He will be joined at the $35,000-to-win show by fellow West Coaster John Duty of Portland, Oregon, who is the current runner-up in the Pacific Coast Xtreme DirtCar Series.

Matt Miller, who is presently third in the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series points, will wheel the Dirt Shop late model number 7. Shane Clanton, a regular with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Stacker2 Late Model Series, will steer the RSD Enterprises-owned dirt late model number 25 machine. Ray Cook drives his own dirt late model number 53, which is sponsored by Bill Elliott Racing and Arvil Cook Property Investments.

Chad Clark will be at the controls of the Royster/Clark-sponsored dirt late model number 00. According to Knoxville director of racing Ralph ‘Cappy’ Capitani, “With today’s crazy gasoline prices, I think we’re going to see a lot more entries from Iowa and the surrounding states. Drivers like Chad Clark of Missouri, Larry Clawson of Kansas, Steve Hucovski of Minnesota, and Johnny Johnson of Iowa can come here in late September and early October and make some good money without spending a fortune in travel costs. I expect we’ll end up somewhere near eighty entries for this year’s Speed-televised 100-lapper.”

Other pre-entrants include Scott Bloomquist, Earl Pearson (Jr.), Chub Frank, Johnny Bone (Jr.), Steve Francis, defending champion Brian Birkhofer, Shannon Babb, Billy Moyer, Rick Eckert, Tim McCreadie, Don O’Neal and Donnie Moran. Combine the commitment of ten sanctioning affiliates, including the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and the WoO Stacker2 Late Model Series, with the Vermeer Manufacturing ‘Deuces Wild’ partnership involving KC Raceway’s Dirt Track World Championship, and Knoxville’s $220,000 three-day extravaganza continues to take shape as one of the true crown jewels of dirt late model racing.
