Knoxville Raceway Offers Interactive Events for Late Model Nationals

By Karen Owen, Director of Marketing & Sales, Knoxville Raceway, Knoxville, IA -The Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuels with associate sponsors PBM Performance Products and Vermeer Manufacturing is just around the corner. The dates of the event are September 29-30, October 1, 2005. The three-day event will not only feature the top late model drivers from across the nation, it will play host to thousands of race fans. Knoxville Raceway will entertain fans by offering a variety of interactive events in addition to the three nights of racing!

Thursday through Saturday, the fan-fest/trade show will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the midway behind the main grandstands. Fans will enjoy several interactive activities along the midway including the Goodyear Tire and Rubber race car simulator. The full scale replica dirt late model by Roelandt Racing Systems will be in the Goodyear booth for fans to experience what its like to drive a 700 horsepower dirt late model around Knoxville Raceway. Fans can enter a special contest each day by competing against the simulator to determine the fastest lap each day among the fans that enter the contest. Each day a grand prize winner will be awarded a prize package compliments of Goodyear to the fan that turns the fastest lap.

Driver merchandise trailers and numerous vendors will also be on display during the fan-fest/trade show to purchase your favorite driver apparel and racing souvenirs. Show cars and manufacturers’ displays will be on hand for fans to view at the fan-fest trade show. Vendors will be lined up along the main walkway on the Marion County Fair Grounds, home of the Knoxville Raceway.

On Friday morning, September 30, Knoxville Raceway will hold the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. Driver/Celebrity /Race Fan golf tournament. Fans will get the chance to golf with a driver and/or celebrity in a 18 hole 4-person best ball tournament format held at Pine Knolls Country Club located in Knoxville, IA. Each foursome will have one driver and one celebrity. Race fans who enter to play in the tournament will be put into a drawing and each fan’s name will be drawn out the day of the tournament to determine what foursome the fan will play in. For fans wanting to play in this tournament the cost is $35 a person. The price includes 18 holes of golf, use of a cart, lunch, and a chance to win prizes. Racexr.com and Fast Lane have stepped on board as associate sponsors of the golf tournament. Some of the drivers who will be playing include Brian Birkhofer, Donnie Moran, Earl Pearson Jr., Bart Hartman, Ray Cook, Dale McDowell, and Rick Eckert. Then on Saturday October 1, the second annual Celebrity/Driver Waiter Dinner & Auction will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame & Museum located off the second turn of the famous Knoxville Raceway. Last year’s event was a huge success as numerous late model drivers and celebrities served a packed house to lunch all for a good cause and a lot of fun. Later that afternoon from 2-4 p.m., Knoxville Raceway will host a “Meet the Drivers” autograph session at the Dyer-Hudson Hall located right behind the Knoxville Raceway ticket office. Drivers will be set up at various tables for fans to meet and sign autographs. Lucas Oil will provide merchandise for fans to use for autographs of their favorite driver. Last year's autograph session provided fans with over 40 drivers to meet and talk to before the events on Saturday night.
