Sunoco Race Fuels Named Official Fuel and Presenting Sponsor of the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals

Knoxville, IA - Knoxville Raceway has announced that Sunoco Race Fuels has signed on to be the “Official” fuel of the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals on September 29-30 an October 1st. The Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, presented by Sunoco Race Fuels will offer a total purse of $220,000 over the three-day event with entries from coast to coast including most of the top drivers in the country already pre-entered for the event.
“We are really excited to have Sunoco come on board for this event. Sunoco brings additional corporate backing to the event and provides the racers fuel they need to compete in the event”, stated Karen Owen, Director of Marketing & Sales for Knoxville Raceway. The Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals presented by Sunoco Race Fuels along with associate sponsors PBM Performance Products and Vermeer Manufacturing will take place at the famous Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville IA.
Sunoco Performance Products is the largest manufacturer of racing gasoline in the world. Sunoco is involved with numerous racing-sanctioning bodies, tracks and competitors to provide the latest in race gas technology. HCR Plus, Sunoco’s newest racing fuel, just recently powered Dale McDowell to the win at Eldora Speedway’s World 100.
“By partnering with Knoxville Raceway for this event, we felt like this huge event would be a great opportunity to market and promote our newest race fuel HCR Plus. With so many dirt late model teams attending this event and the publicity and exposure generated, it will give us an opportunity to work closely with the drivers and race teams to market the new HCR Plus”, commented Don VanValkenburgh, National Sales Manager, Sunoco Performance Products.
HCR Plus is specifically targeted for racing engines with a very high compression ratio that operate under sustained high speeds and loads. It has an (R+M)/2 octane rating of 114. It contains no oxygenates and will tolerate a lot of heat which helps resist vapor locking. The fuel is leaded, so it is for off-road use only. Sunoco will have HCR Plus available at Knoxville Raceway for the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals September 29-30 and October 1st.
The Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals will not only feature the top late model drivers from across the nation, it will play host to thousands of race fans. Knoxville Raceway will entertain fans by offering a variety of interactive events in addition to the three nights of racing! Thursday through Saturday, the fan-fest/trade show will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the midway behind the main grandstands. Fans will enjoy several interactive activities along the midway including the Goodyear Tire and Rubber racecar simulator. Several manufacturer vendors and numerous driver merchandise trailers will be on hand for fans to enjoy while at the event.
Then on Friday morning September 30th Knoxville Raceway will host a driver/celebrity/ fan golf tournament. The golf tournament will use a four-person team in a captain’s choice/best ball contest. Fans will get an opportunity to play golf with some of their favorite drivers and celebrities. Saturday’s festivities include a celebrity /waiter luncheon from 11am till 2pm and a “Meet the Drivers” autograph session at the Dyer-Hudson Hall located right behind the Knoxville Raceway ticket office. Drivers will be set up at various tables for fans to meet and sign autographs. Lucas Oil will provide merchandise for fans to use for autographs of their favorite driver.
