Allgaier, James & Smith Added to Celebrity Waiter Line-Up

Thursday, September 22, 2005
Justin Allgaier of Springfield, Illinois, Scott James of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and Brady Smith of Solon Springs, Wisconsin are the latest dirt late model drivers to commit to being celebrity waiters at this year’s Knoxville L.M. Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction on Saturday, October 1, at the National Sprint Car Museum. The charity event, which will benefit the non-profit National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, is open to the general public and is being held in conjunction with the Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.

According to National Sprint Car Museum executive director Tom Schmeh, “I met Justin Allgaier for the first time when he was racing in New Zealand, and he is a fine young man. He did very well at last year’s Knoxville late model show with a strong seventh place finish, and this year he’s been getting some valuable pavement experience with ARCA. He’s a great ambassador for late model stock car racing, and now we’ll get to see if he’s a good waiter and fund-raiser! And although I’ve never met Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series rookie Scott James nor defending World Dirt Racing League champion Brady Smith, I’m pleased that they’ve both stepped up to the plates, so to speak.”

Allgaier, James and Smith will join previously announced waiters Chris Smyser, Chub Frank, Billy Moyer, Jeep Van Wormer, Steve Francis, Tim McCreadie and Donnie Moran. The Knoxville Late Model Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction takes place on the National Sprint Car Museum’s air-conditioned second floor on Saturday afternoon, October 1, from 12 until 2:30 p.m. The $15 tickets must be purchased in advance, and can be reserved by calling the museum toll-free at 1-800-874-4488. The dinner is being catered by Hy-Vee Food Stores, with dessert provided by Stephanie Johnson Desserts. Following the meal, Lynn Richard and his family from Mount Pleasant will conduct a live auction of unique, autographed stock car racing memorabilia and souvenirs.

The fun family-friendly event is presented by National Hawkeye Racing News of Vinton, whose internet web site is www.hawkeyeracingnews.com. Those on the event planning committee are Dan Doyle, Kathy Krafka Harkema, Barry Johnson, Lynn Richard and Tom Schmeh. Last year, Speed Channel’s Jeff Hammond was the top-earning celebrity waiter, and the event raised nearly $5,000 total for the two 501(c)(3) non-profit motorsports museums.
