Knoxville Confirms Sept. 28-29-30 for 2006 Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals

Sunday, October 9, 2005
Knoxville Raceway has confirmed September 28-30, 2006, will be the dates for the third annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals. In addition, director of racing Ralph Capitani and the entire Marion County Fairboard have listened to the concerns of teams and fans alike, and have announced plans to institute an all-brand, multi-compound tire rule for next year’s Speed-televised event. According to Capitani, “The details still have to be worked out on the tire rule, but we are confident that can set a minimum durometer reading that will be fair and cost-effective for everyone. Fans have urged us to keep the points-based format the same as what’s used at our Sprint Car Nationals, so we know we need to get the car count back up there. And the best way to do that is to reduce costs for the competitors.”

“We are also looking at creative ways to help the teams with the unloading process in the infield. We now know that dirt late model teams have some different needs than our sprint car teams, so we are looking at ways of addressing them. However, the fans have spoken clearly that they enjoy the view of the track and the pits without the big rigs in the infield. We pride ourselves on trying to find the right balance between the needs of our fans, teams, sponsors, media, builders/manufacturers, and various sanctioning affiliates,” said Capitani.

Scott Bloomquist claimed $35,000 in winning last weekend’s 100-lap Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals. The Speed-televised event featured sixty teams from ten sanctioning affiliates: Mid-America Racing Series (MARS), Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS), Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Series, National Championship Racing Association (NCRA), Northern Allstars Late Model Series (NALMS), Pacific Coast Xtreme Dirt Car Series (PCXDCS), Western Dirt Late Model Tour, World Dirt Racing League (WDRL), and World of Outlaws (WoO).
