Knoxville Raceway Announces 2006 Sprint Car Rules Changes

Wednesday, November 9, 2005
In keeping with Knoxville Raceway’s ongoing commitment to improve the racing for fans – and reduce costs to competitors – rules changes for both “410” cubic inch and “360” cubic inch sprint cars were released today by Ralph Capitani, Director of Racing and John McCoy, Technical Director. The rules changes will apply to the 70+ teams that compete weekly for the Season Championships.

TIRES – For both “360” and “410” Sprint Cars: (All measurements are based on racetrack gauges and meters)
Right Rear – Medium compound = 35+ durometer reading / Maximum width sidewall to sidewall = 22.5 inches
Same tire must be run for entire event – all races. A change due to a flat (approved by Tech) will put a car on the rear of the event(s).
Note: B main cars may use another tire for the B (Medium, 35+, 22.5”).
Left Tire - Must be a 30+ durometer reading / Maximum width sidewall to sidewall = 18.75 inches.

WINGS - For both “360” and “410” Sprint Cars: (All measurements are based on racetrack gauges and meters)
Approved 2005 top and nose wings are allowed.
Alternative wings allowed – Flat top surface with a maximum 1” turn-up (wicker bill) for top and front wing.

SIDE PANELS – For both “360” and “410” Sprint Cars: (All measurements are based on racetrack gauges and meters)
May not exceed the racetrack template. The largest side panels allowed are on the 2005 Big Max by Maximum.

INJECTORS – For “410” motors: (All measurements are based on racetrack gauges and meters)
Maximum injector size = 3”.

According to Ralph Capitani, “These rules changes, while aimed directly at our weekly racers, reflect our ongoing talks with track operators across the country that have the same goals we have. Better races for the fans and lower racer costs. I can’t say that everyone will do what we’re doing, but we’ll be close.” John McCoy added that, “The problem of tracks taking rubber has a big impact on how good the racing is. We ran a number of tire tests this year and the new tire rule addresses that.”

The entire 2006 Rules information will be available in late mid-December at www.knoxvilleraceway.com.
