2005 Knoxville regular Wayne Johnson (pictured) made a fantastic "alphabet soup" climb through the field in his Chili Bowl debut on Saturday night. Johnson's surge started in an F feature and ended in the championship event.

Johnson cruised by 55 other competitors in his climb and quest for the "Golden Driller" trophy. Starting 6th in the second F feature, he grabbed a transfer by finishing third. He then surged from 15th to 4th in the E, 16th to 3rd in the D, 18th to 5th in the C, and 20th to 5th in the B to qualify him for the main event. He would be scored 23rd in the main event after suffering brake problems.

Don Droud Jr. also worked his way into the finale, finishing 2nd in his B main after starting 3rd. He would be scored 22nd in the A main after starting 16th.

Justin Henderson finished where he started in the 2nd C main, 15th.

Billy Alley started deep in the pack and went from 11th to 3rd in the first J main. His run would end in the I where he finished 12th.

Late model and DIRT modified star, Tim McCreadie scored his first Chili Bowl win. He took the lead on lap 35 (of 50) after a race long battle with former winners, Jay Drake and Cory Kruseman.
