by Bill Wright - Six-time Knoxville track champion Terry McCarl took the lead from All Star Greg Wilson on the 15th circuit and took a 410 feature win at East Bay Raceway Park near Tampa, Florida on Thursday night. The win was McCarl's third at East Bay in the last week. The other two wins came in 360 action as McCarl was crowned the Ronald Laney "King of the 360s" last Saturday night. If McCarl can win the 410 finale on Saturday night, he will claim a bonus $5,000 for winning in two of the three classes. He drove well in the non-wing events earlier this week, but it was Cory Kruseman who came out victorious in the final two nights of that action.

McCarl's win came ahead of quick timer and seven-time Knoxville track champion Danny Lasoski, Wilson, 1998 360 Nationals Champion Gary Wright and Bob Felmlee.

Three 2005 Knoxville 410 regulars are competing at East Bay this week as well. Current track champion Kerry Madsen (Vermeer #55 pictured) qualified 22nd quick in the star-studded 50 car field. He ran a strong second in his heat race before something mechanical forced him to fade to fifth at the checkers. The finish was enough to put him in the main event where he finished 18th.

Jesse Giannetto, who is piloting the family #D1, timed in 24th quick, took second in his heat and finished the main event in 23rd.

Wayne Johnson, still subbing for Natalie Sather in her family's #94s, rebounded from a wild flip in the non-wing portion of events on Tuesday afternoon. Getting wrench help from Hall of Famer Kenny Woodruff, his qualifying effort was 35th in the field. Behind the eight ball, Wayne finished eighth in his heat and 12th in the B.

Action continues Friday night with the second preliminary event.
