1992 and 1993 Added to "Previous History Results"

Tuesday, February 21, 2006
by Bill Wright – The most recent additions to our “Previous Years” Results sections are the years 1992 and 1993. We continue our countdown to 1954:

1992

Danny Lasoski dominated weekly racing after missing a couple of events to start the season. His nine feature wins and 106 laps led was enough to grab the crown ahead of Randy Smith who grabbed two wins. Steve Kinser was seven for ten in World of Outlaw events (Sammy Swindell took the other three). Included in Steve’s wins was his eighth Knoxville Nationals title and an impressive double feature win in the September Valvoline Classic. After winning the first of the two events, he charged from 20th to win the second.

David Hesmer won six features in the 360 class and led 122 laps, but it was not enough to unseat Dwight Snodgrass from the track title. Despite only capturing three feature wins (two big ones on twin features night), Snodgrass edged Hesmer by a scant 28 points. Garry Lee Maier captured the 2nd Annual 360 Nationals.

1993

Mother Nature was king! Knoxville Raceway did not escape the wrath of the “Floods of ‘93”. While Des Moines was without running water for weeks, Knoxville was getting pounded as well. Though Danny Lasoski streaked to a title with nine feature wins, he was no match for Mother Nature and her 13 cancellations, a record for one season here.

Laoski dominated weekly racing in the Forbrook 5, leading 99 laps and besting Terry McCarl (2 wins) by 415 points. Steve Kinser, who had dominated WoO racing here in 1992, managed only one win, but it was the biggest of all as he captured his ninth Knoxville Nationals trophy.

The late Danny Young was the class of the 360 field, racking up six wins and besting Wayne Redmond by 109 points. Garry Lee Maier won his second consecutive 360 Nationals title. Rick Ferkel took the inaugural Masters Classic.
