“We Get It!” Says ‘Cappy'; Tire Rule Announced for 2006 Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals
Friday, February 24, 2006
“We get it!” With those three simple words from director of racing Ralph ‘Cappy’ Capitani, the Knoxville Raceway today has confirmed the following multi-brand tire compound rule for its third annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals on September 28-30: Hard Tires (minimum durometer prior/cold reading of 60) – Hoosier LM40, D55; Goodyear G50; American Racer MD56. Soft Tires (minimum durometer prior/cold reading of 40) – Hoosier LM20; Goodyear G40; American Racer SD44.

According to Cappy, “We’ve listened to the teams, the fans, and the tire manufacturers. They pretty much all said that they wanted a tire rule for our Speed-televised open-competition event in late September. And we believe our new tire rule is fair and equitable, with the seven allowable compounds from three different tire manufacturers all being readily accessible. This cost-effective rule should accommodate nearly all of the dirt late model racers in North America, coast-to-coast.”

Scott Bloomquist claimed $35,000 in winning last year’s 100-lap Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals, while native Iowan Brian Birkhofer won the inaugural event in 2004.
