Northeast to be Well-Represented at Brodix ToC

Brodix Tournament of Champions entries were received today at the offices of the Knoxville Raceway from winged 360-cubic-inch sprint car stars Bryan Howland of the ASCS Patriot Sprint Group (ASCS-PSG) and Jeff Cook of the Empire Super Sprints (ESS). These entries, plus that previously received from Curt Michael of the United Racing Company (URC), means that the Northeastern United States will be well-represented at the eighth annual $5,000-to-win invitational on Sunday, August 6, at the Marion County Fairgrounds in Iowa.

According to Knoxville’s director of racing Ralph Capitani, “People may not realize that the Tournament of Champions concept came from a proposal we received back in 1997 from Bob Miller of the URC. He wanted URC to race at Knoxville in their 50th year, so it seemed like a natural to invite them and their challenge series rivals, ESS, out to take on Knoxville Raceway’s best ‘360’ drivers. And, over the years, with the encouragement of URC’s John Zimmerman to make this our version of Major League Baseball’s All-Star game, the event has grown and grown. This year we will again host the American Sprint Car Series-sanctioned Knoxville 360 Nationals over three nights, August 3-5, as a predecessor to the prestigious one-night Tournament of Champions invitational on August 6.”

Jeff Cook, who is currently third in nativepoker.com ESS points, will pilot his own Jim Brown-powered JEI chassis sprinter number 10, sponsored by Route 37 Building Supply, North Country Welding, Flack’s Painting & Concrete Restoration, and A. Cozzi Monuments. Bryan Howland, who is currently second in Bobcat of Buffalo ASCS-PSG points, will steer the John Howland-owned Jimmy D’s/Maxim number 51 sprint car, sponsored by Filtrec Corporation, Lasca’s Restaurant, Jimmy D’s Speed & Machine, Pennzoil, Rumetco, and Pro Shocks. Curt Michael leads the Bar’s Leaks/Advance Auto Parts URC points.

The one-day $5,000-to-win international invitational for the top stars and cars in ‘360’ sprint car racing utilizes one common set of technical rules, including use of the American Sprint Car Series (ASCS) Brodix spec head. The pre-entry deadline ($30 fee) is June 28, while the final entry deadline ($45 fee) is July 26. Past Brodix tournament team champions have included Knoxville Raceway (1997, 2003, ’05), ASCS (1998, 2004), National Racing Alliance (1999), and URC (2002).

The technical rules for the Brodix Tournament of Champions are set by the Knoxville Raceway. They will be similar to those used for the ASCS-sanctioned $10,000-to-win Knoxville 360 Nationals on August 3-4-5, except for the Knoxville 360 Nationals ban on cockpit-adjustable devices other than for the forward/backward motion of the top wing. Those seeking more information, including entry forms and technical rules, are urged to visit the half-mile dirt track’s web site at www.knoxvilleraceway.com.
