Western Canada & Pacific Northwest Send Top Teams to Brodix ToC
Tuesday, June 27, 2006
Less than 24 hours after Knoxville Raceway received Brodix Tournament of Champions entries from the northeastern region of the U.S., three entries have been received from ‘top guns’ in western Canada and the Pacific Northwest. Former World of Outlaws (WoO) regular and current Alberta Sprint Tour (AST) point leader Tim Gee has entered the Sunday, August 6, winged 360-cubic-inch sprint car invitational, as has fellow Canadian Chris Schmelzle of British Columbia and Washington state star Brandon Harkness. Gee and Harkness will represent the AST, while Schmelzle will represent the late Fred Brownfield’s Northern Sprint Tour (NST).

Tim Gee of Leduc, Alberta, Canada will pilot his own Shark-powered Maxim chassis sprinter number 4, sponsored by North American Diesel Performance, Carlan Services, McKinney Machine, Western Hard Chrome, City Furniture, B&B Oil Field Services, Compass, All-Star Sig., Gee-Gee Racing and Chem-Services. Chris Schmelzle of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, will steer his own LeJeune Performance & Fabricating number 57C sprint car, sponsored by Talcore Walls & Ceilings, Walt & Fran Petersen, and Slegg Lumber. Brandon Harkness of Sedro Wooley, Washington, currently sixth in Fountain Tire AST points, will race Richard Saumure’s Shark-powered Triple X/Eagle sprinter number 29, sponsored by Winterhawk, Triple X Racing, Double B Logging, and Scott Safety.

The Brodix ToC utilizes a sliding driver eligibility rule, based on the number of point events completed by each sanction by the entry deadline of July 26. Those drivers competing with sanctions that complete 1-5 events by the deadline date will need 100% participation to be eligible for the tourney, while those with sanctions completing 6-10 events will need 90% participation. In the same way, those with a sanction completing 11-15 events will be required to participate in 80% of those races, while 70% participation will be required of those competing in sanctions with 16-20 events completed by July 26. Those drivers competing with sanctions that complete 21-25 events by the deadline date will need 60% participation to be eligible for the tourney, while those with sanctions completing 26 or more events will only need 50% participation.

A maximum of fifteen (15) entered and eligible drivers will be invited from each sanction, based on that sanction’s points as of July 26. If a sanction only completes four shows by the deadline, then only 10 invites will be issued. If three events are run, then only 5 invites will be extended. If two events are run, then only 1 invite will be issued. No invitations will be issued if only one event is completed by a particular sanction by the entry deadline. The technical rules for the ToC will be similar to those used for the ASCS-sanctioned Knoxville 360 Nationals on August 3-4-5, except for the Knoxville 360 Nationals ban on cockpit-adjustable devices other than for the forward/backward motion of the top wing. Those seeking more information, including entry forms and technical rules, are urged to visit the half-mile dirt track’s web site at www.knoxvilleraceway.com.
