Drivers Can “Make or Break” Season at Wells Fargo Twin Features Night!!!
Monday, July 3, 2006
by Bill Wright (www.knoxvilleraceway.com) – Back in April, when a driver looked at the grueling schedule for the points’ chase at the Knoxville Raceway, this Saturday was circled on his calendar. Wells Fargo Twin Features night has long been a “Make it or Break it” night in the journey that crowns a season champion. Missing the cut and not making the A main on Saturday night not only costs you one feature’s points, but two. On the other hand, making the Twin Features can rocket a driver several positions in the standings.

Once the first feature is done, we will invert (winners to the back) the second feature and turn them loose! Few drivers have turned in two wins in one night, but just making the show ensures a driver a shot at staying in the game. The last 410 driver to accomplish twin wins in one evening was Danny Lasoski back in 1996. He did the same in 1990. Jac Haudenschild repeated in 1991 and Bobby Davis Jr. was the other driver to turn the trick in past 22 seasons. His came in 1984. In the 360 class, Billy Alley won two in 2003, while Dwight Snodgrass did the same in 1992 and David Hesmer accomplished the feat in 1989.

Brian Brown, comes off a huge 360 win at Sedalia, MO and hopes to extend his 410 points advantage on the aforementioned Alley, who won here last Saturday. Skip Jackson runs third, while Clint Garner closes in on the trio in fifth. Others planning to jump up in the standings include Lynton Jeffrey, Jesse Giannetto, 360 winner last Tuesday evening at West Liberty, Calvin Landis, Matt Moro, Kaley Gharst and 410 rookie, Dusty Zomer, who captured the checkered flag at Huset’s Speedway last Sunday night.

Two-time and defending 360 point champion and winner the last two weeks, Jake Peters (pictured), holds a 122 point lead over Jeff Mitrisin. John Kearney, Johnny Anderson and rookie, Dustin Lindquist, round out the top five. Joe Beaver, Josh Higday, Stacey Alexander, Jon Corbin and Brett Mather complete the top ten in 360 point standings.

Many more are expected to compete in both classes. You never know who may show up and play the spoiler, but it’s always a blast to find out!

Hot laps will get underway at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are all general admission and are $15 for adults and $3 for children. For more information, visit www.knoxvilleraceway.com.
