by Bill Wright - The sights, smells and sounds of the Marion County Fair will be in the air this weekend, with good old sprint car racing thrown in for good measure on Saturday night! Come early for the fair, take a spin on the rides, have some great eats, and then join us for racing later as hot laps will get underway at 6:45 p.m.

Billy Alley continues his pursuit of Brian Brown in the 410 point standings. Alley, a native of Lincoln, Nebraska, gained 30 points on the leader with two strong second place finishes in last Saturday night’s Twin Features, bringing him to within 150 points of Brown. Both young men have garnered a pair of victories this season, and they continue to distance themselves from the rest of the field.

Brown scored his victories in the Tim and Gina Doogs #21 on May 20 and in the first of last week’s Twin Features. Alley visited the winner’s circle on May 27 and July 1 in Ed and Teresa Gifford’s #17G. Brown led nine drivers under the 15 second bracket in time trials last week, as the speeds continue to increase!

Skip Jackson, Clint Garner, Lynton Jeffrey, Jesse Giannetto, Calvin Landis, Kaley Gharst, Matt Moro, Tim St. Arnold and a cast of others are also expected to compete. Bronson Maeschen took over the rookie standings, points-wise, as he turned in a solid performance last weekend. His run was good enough to launch him into the top ten in the standings and put him 30 points in front of fellow Rookie of the Year candidate, Dusty Zomer.

Jake Peters holds a 121 point lead on the 360 field at this juncture. Jeff Mitrisin turned in a solid performance in the second feature last week to vault himself into second place, as his car owner, Steve Wares, visited the top of the podium for the first time as a car owner. John Kearney is just one point behind Mitrisin, and rookie Dustin Lindquist and Johnny Anderson round out the top five. Joe Beaver, Josh Higday, Stacey Alexander, David Hall and Brett Mather are also expected to compete this Saturday night!

At $12 for adults and $3 for youngsters, you can’t beat the kind of “Bang for your Buck” you get at the Knoxville Raceway! For more information on the Marion County Fair or the races, visit www.knoxvilleraceway.com, or call 641-842-5431.
