Saturday, July 22, 2006
Knoxville, IA by Bruce Neimeth - Jonathan Cornell from Sedalia, Missouri took the measure of the 27 car field of Midwest 305 Winged Sprints on Friday night at the Knoxville Raceway ½ mile during the Iowa Telecom Summer Classic 3-day event. Starting on the inside of row 6, Cornell used the top and bottom grooves to work his way to the front by mid-race and took the checkered flag 8 car lengths ahead of 2nd place Marty Stephenson from Mitchellville, Iowa.

The field included cars from Minnesota, Missouri, South Dakota and Iowa. Knoxville regulars Nate Van Hafften, Mitchell Alexander, Tom Lenz and Chris Walraven played the role of “bushwhackers” with Lenz coming home 3rd. Heat winners were Bruce Anderson, Trimont, MN, Mitchell Alexander, Knoxville, Iowa and Mike Mayberry, Fremont, Iowa.

The companion program to the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series national tour event had plenty of passing and side-by-side racing with a few minor accidents and spinouts. For more information on the Midwest 305 Sprint Cars contact Lee Clark at (641) 933-9962.
