Mayfield crowned 2006 Super Clean 46th Annual Knoxville Nationals Queen

by Kathy Bell - Kaylahree Mayfield, a 17-year old high school senior from Gibbon, Neb. was crowned the 2006 Super Clean 46th Annual Knoxville Nationals Queen. The contest and ceremony was held on Tuesday evening, August 8 at the Knoxville Raceway.

Mayfield was one of 15 young ladies, from five states entered in this year's competition. She is the daughter of Riley and Jennifer Mayfield. Other states represented in the contest were, Iowa, Texas,
Minn. and Mo. "I was in shock when they called my name," Mayfield commented after
the contest. "I feel like I must be dreaming."

She learned her love for the sport of sprint car racing from her dad who is a diehard fan. She had this to say about the 46th Annual Super Clean Knoxville Nationals.

"The Knoxville Nationals brings the best drivers to Knoxville for some really awesome racing. The atmosphere in Knoxville during the Nationals is amazing. Everyone comes together like one big family. I love to come to Knoxville for the Nationals."

Mayfield said she's just a Nebraska farm girl. An avid runner, she participates in high school cross country and track. When asked by one of the judges to name someone she felt was one of the most
influential people in sprint car racing she replied, "Bob Kinser, because he started the racing legacy in the Kinser family."

First runner up of the Queen's Contest was Jessica Ball, Knoxville. he is a 20 year old junior at Grandview College in Des Moines where she is pursuing a degree in Business. She played softball in college and works at the Knoxville Raceway selling 50-50 tickets for the Knoxville Raceway Charitable Organization, KRCO. Her father Greg is a fireman on the Knoxville Raceway, Fire-Rescue crew.

Second runner up was Heather Ross, Bussey, Iowa. She is a 19-year-old AIB online college Accounting and Business Leadership major. The honor of being named Miss Congeniality, which is voted on by her peers, went to Bobbi Jo Alley, Lincoln, Neb. Alley is the sister of Knoxville weekly 410 driver, Billy Alley. She is 21-years-old and currently attends a college of cosmetology.

Knoxville Raceway announcer, Tony Bokhoven emceed the event which is coordinated by Kathy Visser. Assisting Visser with the contest were, the 2005 Nationals Queen, Sara Stewart, Christi Woodruff, Karen Merrill, Mahala Cox, Barb O'Brien, Kelly McCumber, Vickie Agan, Jeanie Feight, Beth Adamick and Stevie Kinser.

Judges for the Knoxville Nationals Queen Contest were, sprint car drivers, Jason Solwold, Burlington, Wash. and Paul McMahan, Nashville, Tenn., Joanne Cram, Knoxville, Kathy Ross, Sedalia, Mo.,
Kristi Konda, Jackson, Minn. and Don DeKock, Pella.

Racing for the Super Clean 46th Annual Knoxville Nationals begins on Wednesday, August 9 and runs through the championship event on Saturday evening, August 12.
