The track champ was Randy Smith, his third such honor. The Rookie of the Year was some kid named Terry McCarl, driving the Daryl Arend 1A. An unprecedented seventeen different winners graced victory lane in the 410 class. Three of Doug Wolfgang's 50+ wins in Bob Weikert's #29 came at Knoxville that season, including domination of the Silver Anniversary Knoxville Nationals. Wolfie's only blemish in that event was a thrilling second place finish to an Australian known as "Mad Max" in the Race of States. Dean Chadd dominated Modified Sprint competition with seven wins and a track championship. The year was 1985, and you can read about all of it now in our "Historical Results" section.
