Knoxville Mid-States 305 Sprint Championship Caps 6-day Schedule

Thursday, December 21, 2006
Knoxville, IA, - by Bruce Neimeth
The 2007 Knoxville Raceway schedule has six days of 305 Sprint Car racing, including the introduction of the 3-day Knoxville Mid-States 305 Sprint Championship in late September. While all these events are running in conjunction with other events, it would be hard to call them support events based on the 2006 performance.

Each of the events is targeted at the growing number of 305 Sprint Cars in the upper Midwest, the core participant and fan areas for all Knoxville Raceway events. These include Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin. The emergence of a number of 305 sanctions, including the Mid-America and Midwest groups, has made it easier to communicate with these car owners and drivers.

The dates and events are:
• Friday, April 27th with the WDRL Late Model Series
• Friday, June 1st with the Knoxville Masters Classic as part of the Annual National Sprint Car Hall of Fame Induction weekend.
• Friday, June 15th with the World of Outlaws Late Model Series.
• Thursday – Friday – Saturday, September 28-30th with the 4th Annual Lucas Oil Late Knoxville Late Model Nationals.
o Thursday Preliminary – All entrants race for points. Heats, C, B & A Main events.
o Friday – Preliminary -All entrants race for points. Heats, C, B & A Main events.
o Saturday – Finals – Line up by points - C, B & A Main events.
This format will mirror the Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals with everyone racing each night for a complete purse.

According to Ralph Capitani, Knoxville Director of Racing, “The first three events will be run by one or more of the area series just as we have done in 2006. The 3-day Championship event however will be run with Knoxville rules and specs designed to allow all area teams and series to compete with each other. He went on to say, “We are working with area engine builders, car owners and series to simplify the key areas like heads. We will have a maximum compression ratio that will apply to all the various heads available.”

Detailed engine rules and specifications will be available at www.knoxvilleraceway.com by January 1, 2007. All other rules and specifications relative to chassis, running gear and safety equipment will be consistent with all classes of sprint cars running at Knoxville Raceway. Updated rules will be available at www.knoxvilleraceway.com by January 15, 2007.
