15 points separate 1st - 4th in “410” Knoxville Championship

Thursday, May 10, 2007
After 3 nights of racing only 15 points separate the top four drivers in the run for the 2007 Knoxville Raceway “410” Championship Cup. In fact 1st and 2nd are tied, as are 3rd and 4th.

Randy Anderson and Ricky Logan are tied for 1st with 485 points. Anderson has set fast time twice while Logan has two top 5 finishes in the features. Brian Brown and Dustin Lindquist are tied for 3rd with 470 points. Brown won on opening night for his 7th career Knoxville feature win. Lindquist took top honors last week for his 1st career “410” feature ever, and his 3rd career Knoxville feature win.

While it’s too early to credit the new tire rule at Knoxville Raceway, the first three events have seen drivers come from deep in the pack to finish in the top 4 positions. Brian Brown came from 15th to 1st with Scott Winter coming from 20th to 3rd on opening night. Last week Kaley Gharst came from last to 4th.

With continued updates to the top wings we are seeing the drivers able to run different lines and adjust to changing track conditions versus the recent trend to “lock the cars down on the track”. This left little room to “miss the set up” and still be competitive. The next few weeks will more clearly define the result of the changes as drivers and crews begin to figure out how to get the most out of the new tires and wings.

With the total purses and awards of over $2.1 million for the 36 race schedule in 2007, drivers and teams will travel from across the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand to compete. In addition to “the big checks” there is also the opportunity to add their name to the list of champions from Indy, NASCAR and USAC that have competed and become known as a Knoxville Raceway Champion.
