by Bruce Neimeth - The 2007 Knoxville Raceway Championship Cup Series tonight, number 16 of 17 events, features a possible first-time champion and a repeat champion. Brian Brown leads the 410 Cup points towards his first Knoxville Championship, while Josh Higday, the 2006 360 Champion, is leading the 360 Cup points.

"Blackjack" Brian Brown, with 12 feature track victories overall, leads Dusty Zomer, another potential first-time champion by 150 points. The maximum possible 410 series points a driver can earn in a night of racing is 275. With 550 points available in the two events left, it's still wide open between two drivers that have shown "no mercy" to each other, or anyone else on the track since April. Away from the track each has a different personality.

Dusty, from Brandon, SD appears calm and easy to approach while the 1Z team, a Zomer family operation, is all business yet relaxed. From top to bottom, pick the right time and they’ll all enjoy talking to fans and competitors. Brian, from Grain Valley, MO has an intensity that shows through in everything he says or does, and he loves to talk racing.. The 21 team on the other hand, looks like what it is - a small family operation that appears to enjoy every minute at the track, good or bad, as the Doogs enjoy a taste of success and notoriety never expected.

Josh Higday, with 14 feature track victories overall, leads 2nd place Bryan Dobesh, a Knoxville rookie, by 57 points, with 3rd place Mat Moro, a veteran Knoxville driver, by 71 points. The maximum possible 360 series points a driver can earn in a night of racing is 135. With 270 points available in two events left, it again is wide open between the three drivers.

Josh, from Des Moines, IA, is as calm and laid back as you’ll find, in and out of the car. Both driver and the 2X team, a Snodgrass family operation, are methodical yet friendly and open all the time. On the track Josh picks his spots and shows lots of patience as he moves forward. He has earned the respect of his fellow drivers.

Bryan Dobesh. a rookie from Sioux Falls, SD, is aggressive yet controlled on the track. He’ll “worry” you once you know he’s near you. With the usual rookie mistakes behind him, and a trip to Knoxville’s Victory stage this year, the championship should go down to the final feature on September 1st. The 13L team, again a family operation, is excited but not surprised by their success in 2007. Attention to details with lots of smiles from everyone makes life fun for the driver.

3rd place is held by a seasoned Knoxville veteran, Matt Moro, driving for a seasoned Knoxville team – again a family operation. Matt, from Ankeny, IA, can be described in few words – fun to be around. Same goes for the 2M team. But competitors don’t let the fun atmosphere fool them. Matt is always a threat to win, having taken numerous 360 and 410 victories. Being 66 point out of a series championship just makes the smiles bigger.
