Purse for 5th Annual Knoxville Late Model Nationals Eclipses $260K!!!
(Bill W) The highly successful Knoxville Late Model Nationals just got a bit richer. The Knoxville Raceway is announcing a purse increase of over $40,000 for their 2008 event to be held September 25-27, 2008. The total purse will be $260,810 for the three-day event. The increased purse will be distributed from top to bottom and benefit all 66 drivers participating in 2008.
Though the payout is increasing, the ticket prices for fans will remain the same according to Knoxville Race Director, Ralph Capitani. "Fan turnout for the 2007 event enabled us to increase the payoff without raising ticket prices," he says.
The winner’s share has been increased from $35,000 to $40,000 on Saturday night and the preliminary feature purses have been boosted as well. Those shows will now pay $7,000 to win. Cappy is proud of the fan base this event has established and expects the same kind of participation in the event from the stars of Nextel Cup. He relates, "We wish to thank those who came to last year's race and look forward to seeing everyone in 2008, which, by the way, is the same weekend as the NASCAR race in Kansas City. This should enable several NASCAR stars to participate with us." Tony Stewart, Ryan Newman and Ken Schrader have all participated in the event.
The event will again coincide with the Midwest 305 Sprint Championships. The event for 305 sprint cars will be in its second year. The first fifty entries will be accepted for that popular event.
Entry blanks and rules for both events will be posted at www.KnoxvilleRaceway.com after January 1st. Tickets will go on sale January 15 (and prices are the same as 2007):
Thursday and Friday (1/2 price for children under 14):
$20 for general admission
$25 for reserved
Saturday (1/2 price for children under 14):
$30 for general admission
$35 for reserved
