The Perfect Christmas Gift

Tuesday, November 20, 2007
KNOXVILLE, Iowa – Can’t find that perfect gift for that “hard to buy for” person on your Christmas list? Can’t find something that is sprint car related? Keep thinking that a tie and a sweater just does not cut it? Well, do we have a gift idea for you!
Knoxville Raceway has developed the perfect race related gift for this Christmas. You may have heard about it. It’s called RACEOPOLY. It’s the sprint car version of one of your childhood’s favorite games. MONOPOLY. Knoxville’s version is played in the same fashion but the twist is that you get to buy Knoxville Raceway property such as the Camp Grounds, the Flag Stand, Victory Lane (aka Boardwalk), Turns 1-4 (aka the railroads), Bob Trostle’s Garage and many other Knoxville historical spots. Wanna buy Dingus? It’s on the board. Ever thought you’d like to have one of the VIP Suites that sit atop the giant front stretch grandstands. This is your chance. Are you old enough to remember the Arizona Barn? That’s for sale.

But look out! You may land on GO TO THE PITS! Just like in the old Parker Brothers board game the dreaded GO TO JAIL has been transformed and you will take a diagonal trip across the board to the Pit Area and lose your turn (unless you have the dough to pay for an early out). Some car owners don’t have that kind of cash laying around.

Speaking of car owners, the tokens for the Knoxville Raceway version are nearly collectibles themselves. There is a winged sprint, a non-winged sprint, a push truck, a semi-hauler, a beer mug with foam and a golf cart (everyone wants a golf cart at Nationals), all in miniature. As with the original board game, the object is to become the wealthiest player through purchasing, renting and selling property. You can even buy garages and concession stands to line your properties for the hapless player who happens to land on them.

Then there are the BERM and CUSHION cards (aka Community Chest and Chance). You might blow a tire and have to go back three spaces or pass the pace car and have to miss one turn! You could be inducted into the Knoxville Raceway Hall of Fame or set “Quick Time!” and collect $25 from each player. All parts and pieces of the new RACEOPOLY are directly tied into sprint car racing.

But wait, there’s still more! This game actually has a second way to play. This version turns the board into a racetrack……Knoxville Raceway! The object here is to become not only the wealthiest but the winningest player by racing sprint cars. Though the game comes with a set of rules for this second version, the true object is to have fun. After you’ve raced around the board several times perhaps you and the other players can agree on some new rules for this “open wheel” version. After all, who says you can’t use three dice? Why not run a one-hour feature instead of a 25-lapper. Or, give the guy in last place two rolls of the dice to catch up and create a battle for the lead. Just have fun with it!

RACEOPOLY is available at the online store at the Knoxville Raceway website or you can also buy it in person at Knoxville Raceway or the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum. Buy it to play or buy it as a keepsake for only $29.95.

Ladies and Gentlemen, let the games begin. Start your engines!
