Tuesday, May 24, 2005
KNOXVILLE, IOWA by TOM SCHMEH - Knoxville Raceway, which has hosted weekly auto racing since 1954, just got ‘high-tech’ with the announcement that tickets for the September 29-30-October 1 Lucas Oil Late Model Nationals are now available on-line at www.knoxvilleraceway.com. It is the first time in the history of the half-mile dirt oval that reserved grandstand tickets are available for purchase via the internet.

Fans wishing to purchase tickets on-line for the $220,000 national championship event are encouraged to use one of the following credit cards: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover. Reserved grandstand tickets are $85 per set for the three-day show. There is a five-dollar shipping and handling fee per credit card transaction.

Defending champion and proud Iowan Brian Birkhofer of Muscatine is already pre-entered, as are hot-shoes Earl Pearson, Jr., Brady Smith, John Duty, Kyle Berck, Jimmy Mars, Darren Miller, Scott James, Steve Shaver, John Anderson, Chris Smyser, Jeep Van Wormer and Steve Hucovski. In addition, Iowans Jay Johnson, Boone McLaughlin, Tommy Elston, Denny Eckrich, Dave Eckrich and Johnny Johnson are already looking forward to competing for the thirty starting spots in the $152,750 Speed-televised 100-lap finale on October 1.

Said director of racing Ralph Capitani today, “Gang, the show is over four months away and you can’t believe how much ‘buzz’ is out on the web already about it. And that ‘buzz’ is naturally creating excitement here on the fairgrounds. Just today we opened an entry from Cedar Lake Speedway and WISSOTA young gun Justin Fegers of Mound, Minnesota. Heck, we’ve already got entries from Florida to Oregon, and many points in between!”

Those seeking more information on the second annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals at the Knoxville Raceway, September 29-30-October 1, are encouraged to visit the track’s newly redesigned web-site at www.knoxvilleraceway.com.
