1980 Results, Stories and Points Up!

Sunday, February 17, 2008
(Bill W) The year was 1980. Mike Brooks was coming into his prime and won the track title on the strength of eight feature wins. Driving the Mickow Coporation TMC #12 sprinter, many thought Brooks would lift the "curse" that the locals had on winning the Nationals. After a perfect score on his qualifying night, things seemed to be going good...until the fog! A change to a Sunday afternoon show didn't bode well for Brooks, but it did pan out for local car owner Bob Trostle. Trostle joined forces with Steve Kinser and his cousin Karl (after they had misfortune on the first qualifying night) to win their first Nationals!

Brooks won the championship over Eddie Leavitt by 245 points and swept Twin Features night, winning the second feature from the back. Steve Kinser swept the April World of Outlaw shows and Doug Wolfgang took a pair in May. Young Tim Green drove the Jensen Construction #55 to a WoO win at the end of September.
