Knoxville Raceway 410 Driver Ricky Logan is New Zealand National Sprint Car Champion!

Ricky Logan captured the crown for the National Sprint Car Championship Series Saturday night at Western Springs Speedway in Auckland, New Zealand. The Lucas Oil, J&J, Goodyear, Don Ott powered machine finished 3rd for the evening but first overall in points for the season.

The track was very wet, rut rough and full of holes. Single file racing seem to be the destiny of every race. Logan started eighth in his first heat on a slimy track managing to finish 6th in the narrow no passing race. The second heat race didn’t show much improvement in track conditions. Logan started fourth, turned the fastest lap by two tenths of a second and finished 3rd improving one position .

The feature put Logan starting fourth. The cars dove into turn one, Logan hit a rut throwing him back to fifth. The race continued in single file as Logan was eventually able to claw his way to third.

Logan said, ”We had a car that would have driven above the cushion, as we’ve done several races here, I might have been able to win but all we needed to do was finish. My team had given me a super car to drive race after race as was apparent by our 11 feature wins but ultimately my whole team had worked for and wanted to win the war of the championship.”

Logan’s clinch of the National Sprint Car Championship came on the heels of winning the NZ Grand Prix, NZ Gold Cup and the NZ North Island Champ title race. Logan is the first overseas driver to win the National Sprint Car Championship Series.

Logan also said, “I’d like to thank Lucas Oil, J&J, Goodyear, Don Ott, DMI, Pro Shocks, Simpson, HRP Wings, Butler Built Seats, Keizer Wheels, and the Keith Simpson race team for providing me with such an incredible sprint car to run for the New Zealand race season!”
