Another Name in 410 Racing to Run Weekly at Knoxville!

(Joanne Cram) Brandon Wimmer of Fairmount, Indiana, confirmed that he will be running Knoxville Raceway's weekly program this season. Wimmer has teamed up with Alan Barton of Famington, Missouri, to run the famed Wimmer 7tw car. Although Wimmer's grandfather, Tom doesn't own the car any longer, Alan Barton has decided to continue Brandon's legacy in the number.

Brandon ran the family's familiar 7tw car from 2002 through 2005. Most recently, Wimmer has run the Roth Motorsport's 83jr Beefpacker's car in and around California- winning Skagit Speedway's famed Dirt Cup last June. When Ross Motorsports didn't come together for this season, the team parted ways. Brandon had also run races here and there for Barton, so this freed Wimmer up for a full time run with Barton in the Midwest. Barton and Wimmer were looking at all their options to run a quality race program- and Knoxville fit the quality of racing and exposure Wimmer was looking for in a home track.

Looking to crunch the budget, Wimmer and Barton have decided to keep their racing operation in Des Moines, where Wimmer will work on the car and stay during the week. Brandon says this will help immensely with the fuel costs, as the tow from Farmington to Knoxville is about seven hours- which equates into hundreds of dollars for a one way trip to run a race. Brandon hopes to hit races close to Knoxville, as well as the World of Outlaws when they are within reasonable towing distance.

The 7tw is still looking for additional sponsors for the season to ensure they can make it all the way through. Brandon is looking forward to another Nationals, and hopes to improve on his highest finish in the B main.

Wimmer's crew of the Maxim/Gaerte are Rod Tiner and Jason Dane. Sponsors thus far are Butler Built Seats, DMI Racing Products, and HRP Wings.

A Few Corrections:

Okay, so when writing my story about Derek Ingalls, I completely underestimated the reach of the Knoxville Raceway website. It was pointed out to me that in my story about Derek, I had failed to mention the other two drivers' names that shared the sprint car with Derek Ingalls and Travis Cram back in 1993 at Skagit Speedway. Boy did I get called on that one, all the way from the West Coast! My apologies to my friends, Jim Siroshton and Damon Hespe, who also shared that sprint car ride with Travis Cram and Dusty Ingalls. I only omitted their names because I assumed (incorrectly) that since they were not here in the Midwest, I didn't need to mention their fame. Apparently, the world wide web serves its purpose in keeping us all connected ...and corrected.
