History, Racing, and Fun in Store This Weekend at Knoxville!

(Bill W) A huge weekend of racing, as well as a look at the past is in store this weekend at Knoxville. It all starts Thursday night with practice for Friday night’s Masters Classic. At least thirty drivers are signed in already for the race for drivers age 50 and over. The Masters will again pay $3,000 to the winner. The exciting 305 sprints will race in support of the Masters on Friday, and Saturday the Knoxville Championship Cup Series will be at it again on CARQUEST Night! Throw in the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum’s 19th Annual Induction Banquet Saturday afternoon, and its going to be a full weekend, indeed!

Among those entered in the Masters Classic are defending champion AJ Weaver, who put a bit of a damper on Kenny Jacobs’ induction weekend a year ago, when he passed the Ohio native late in the race. Both are returning this year. Joining Weaver and the “Mouse”, are 2008 Hall of Fame inductee Kramer Williamson of Pennsylvania and 2007 inductee Shane Carson. Central Pennsylvania 410 regular Judi Bates enters as the first female participant in the event, while Mike Peters, Carl “Midge” Miller, Rick Weld, Greg Rilat, Lonnie Jensen, Mike Houseman, Tony Moro and more will add to the quality field.

Justin Henderson solidified his place atop the Knoxville Championship Cup chase with another wire to wire victory last week with the 410s. In some of the best racing action of the year seen anywhere, he held off a persistent Mark Dobmeier at the checkers. Those expected to challenge the two Dakota drivers on Saturday night include “The Dude” Danny Lasoski, Skip “Action” Jackson, “Tornado” Billy Alley, Jake “The Snake” Peters, Calvin Landis, Brooke Tatnell, Ryan Anderson, “Blackjack” Brian Brown, Dusty “Zoom Zoom” Zomer, and the usual solid cast of drivers.

After winning the first two 360 features of the year, Gregg Bakker found himself on the outside looking in on the main event last Saturday night. That underlines the competitiveness of the field assembled every week at Knoxville. Ryan Roberts, in his second full year of racing at Knoxville, took advantage of Bakker’s misfortune and has a small points’ lead on the South Dakota driver going into Saturday. John Kearney smoked the field last week on a fast track to take feature honors. Joe Beaver, Brett Mather, Russ Hall, Dustin Selvage, Jon Agan, Dave Hall, Josh Higday and Matt Moro are all expected to have a say in things when the night is through!
