Harris Clash Feature Falls to Mother Nature

KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 17) The 17th annual Harris Clash fell to rain at Knoxville Raceway Thursday night. The rain, which nearly held off for the night, finally put an end to qualifying events just prior to the eleven o’clock hour as the Sport Modifieds were nearing the conclusion of their first B Main. Just prior to that, track officials had decided to go ahead and run the Clash feature as the next event since the lineup was set and the storm was approaching. A light rain prevented that strategy and fifteen minutes later the event was called when the rain became heavier.
A record of sorts was set not only for this event but for the Knoxville track itself as 121 Modifieds and 62 Sport Modifieds crowded trailer to trail to fill the pit area. That total (183 cars) was a new infield record for this historical central Iowa fairgrounds.
