Spotlight Shines on the Best in the Nation This Weekend at Knoxville!

(Bill W) It’s hard to believe the 18th Annual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Nationals presented by Vermeer Manufacturing are upon us, but they are! The event held Thursday-Saturday, July 31-August 2 will kick off eight nights of racing in ten days time, and will provide some of the best action you’ve seen on the famous Knoxville Raceway! The 410 sprint cars will join the 360 finale on Saturday for Casey’s Night, and the weekend will conclude with Sunday’s BRODIX Tournament of Champions!

The pre-entries for the 360 event showcase a “who’s who” of the sport. The field will be split in half for Thursday and Friday qualifying events. Drivers will accumulate points in a similar fashion as the 410 Knoxville Nationals with the finale culminating with a battle for $10,000 and the honor of being crowned champion on Saturday!

Thursday’s qualifying lineup is stout. Two-time 360 Nationals champions Billy Alley and Terry McCarl will be on hand, as will current American Sprint Cars on Tour point leader Jason Johnson. Defending Knoxville track champion Josh Higday will be joined by current track point leader Matt Moro. Former World of Outlaws drivers Tyler Walker and Jason Solwold will be here, as will three-time Knoxville track champion Jake Peters, fast New Yorker Bryan Howland, former ASCS champion Tim Crawley, former Ultimate Challenge winner Travis Rilat, Zach Chappell and former track champion veterans John Kearney and Randy Martin.

360 Nationals champions highlight Friday’s list as well. Two-time champion Garry Lee Maier, 1998 champion Gary Wright, 2000 champ Wayne Johnson and 2006 champ Jesse Giannetto are all scheduled for Friday. They’ll be challenged by Skagit Dirt Cup winner Jayme Barnes, 2007 410 track champion Brian Brown, Oregon’s best Roger Crockett, “The Rocket” Jesse Hockett, Nebraska ace Jack Dover, veteran Don Droud Jr., formidable Florida driver Kenny Adams, the 2008 “King of California” Jonathan Allard and last week’s feature winner Clint Garner.

This year’s field could be the strongest assembled in the 18 year history of the event, and many of the same drivers will stick around for Sunday’s BRODIX Tournament of Champions. The full show includes 26 sanctioning sprint car series and crowns both a champion ($5,000) and a team champion.

Saturday, the 410 sprinters will be back in action, and the regular chauffeurs should have plenty of competition in the form of drivers coming from all over the land to prepare for the August 6-9 Knoxville Nationals event. Many drivers will be using the rare opportunity to pull double duty, competing in both the 360 and 410 events. Some call Casey’s Night the best regular 410 night of racing for the season! The haulers will be unloading in the infield, so sight lines will be good from anywhere! Don’t miss it!
