Competition Gets Stiffer With Cornell On Board!
Saturday, February 7, 2009
(Bill W) Each week seems to bring more and more competition to Saturday nights and the quest for the Knoxville Championship Cup. Jonathan Cornell has made his intentions known!

Jonathan will follow the most successful year of his sprint car career, taking aim at the 360 track championship and Rookie of the Year honors at Knoxville. In 2008, Jonathan grabbed twelve victories (six with a 360), claimed a track championship at Double X Raceway (California, MO), was second in points at LA Raceway (LaMonte, MO), was third in points at Lake Ozark Speedway, and narrowly missed a championship with the Winged Outlaw Warriors (WOW) series, finishing second and garnering Rookie of the Year honors. Jonathan was also named Hy-Vee 360 “Favorite Driver of the Year”.

Still only 21 years old, Jonathan has a lot in front of him, considering what he has accomplished. Seven years of racing in the karts and micro-sprints garnered numerous track and national wins and championships. In 2005, he stormed onto the sprint car scene, registering ten 305 wins on the campaign. He spread his wings a bit in 2006 while garnering another championship at LA Raceway, grabbing 18 feature wins at eight tracks, including one at Knoxville. In 35 races, he captured 18 wins and an incredible 33 top fives. A move was made into the 360 sprints in 2007, and accomplishments included setting a new 8-lap track record at the “Sprint Car Capital of the World.”
