Weekly Update - 360 Rookies, Winning Drivers and Updated Bios!

(Bill W) The countdown is on! Practice night is four weeks from Saturday!

The 360 Rookie race is shaping up to be a good one in 2009, with four drivers indicating they'll be running for the honor so far (in no particular order):

1. Jonathan Cornell should be fun to watch. The Missouri youngster ran second in the Winged Outlaw Warriors series last year after leading the standings much of the season, He was the track champion at both Lake Ozark Speedway and Double X Raceway.

2. Josh Padellford got his feet wet a bit with a few 360 starts at the end of the season. The Pleasantville youngster is a graduate of the 305 class and has several strong finishes in that class.

3. Jay Russell has been around for awhile, but has not run Knoxville much. The Elwood, Kansas driver had a strong podium finish going when his motor let loose here in his only appearance last season. Jay finished third in Eagle Raceway (NE) points in 2008.

4. Ricky Montgomery showed steady progress last season, and may have more laps on the track than any of the contenders. The 2006 ASCS-Rocky Mountain Rookie of the Year always has a solid man in his corner with his father, Rick.

More are expected to enter this race.

Brian Brown and Johnny Herrera were two local drivers with wins last weekend. Brian won the postponed Turkey Classic in Springfield, Missouri, and Johnny took an ASCS regional win at USA Raceway Park near Tucson, Arizona. Both will compete this weekend in the ASCS National opener at the Devil's Bowl in Mesquite, Texas. Word has Steve Wares taking his #10 and driver Bryan Dobesh to Dallas as well.

Terry McCarl and Wayne Johnson had solid finishes with the World of Outlaws last weekend at the Mini-Gold Cup in Chico, California. Terry finished third in the prelim with 50+ cars in the field. After not getting a time in for the finale, TMAC ran from the back of his heat (13th) to grab the last transfer to the feature (5th) on the final lap without the aid of a caution flag. After running in the top ten for much of the race, Wayne finished 11th in the finale, giving car owner Harold Main his best career WoO finish. Both will compete with the WoO again this weekend in Tulare.
