Point and Format Changes Promise Excitement in 2009!

(Bill W) March 19, 2009 – The quest for the Knoxville Championship Cup will take a bit of a twist in 2009, especially in the 410 class, but also in the 360 point structure!

One change in store will be the format concerning qualifying, or lack thereof. Some nights will feature one-lap qualifying, some will feature group qualifying and some will feature drawing for heat position. “Competitors will find out how we are running the show that particular night at the sign-in window on the day of the event,” says Race Director Ralph Capitani. “Obviously, we don’t want our competitors to be at a disadvantage when the World of Outlaws come, or during the Nationals, so they can expect to get some qualifying in before those events.”

A bigger change is in store for the point structure. The 410 point structure will now mimic the 360 point system. The format is outlined below. “This point structure has worked for the 360 class over the years, and I really think it will tighten things up with the 410’s,” says Cappy. “We won’t see anyone winning the championship by 1000 points anymore.”

Both classes will benefit from another twist in the points that will reward those who are passing cars. In both classes, one and a half season points will be awarded for every car passed (in draw shows only for 410s) in the heats. No time trial points will be awarded.
